Council Member Sugarman
Councilman Sugarman, a native of Kingston, was elected to
the City Council in June of 2003. He attended Roane County High School
and graduated from Sewanee Military Academy. Mr. Sugarman attended
Tennessee Wesleyan College and the University of Tennessee. He served
in the US Air Force with the 151st Fighter Interceptor Squadron and was
stationed in Germany during the Berlin Crisis in the early 1960s. He is
retired from 36 years experience at the Oak Ridge Installations. This
work consisted of 12 years as an accountant in the Finance and
Materials Division at the K-25 site, 13 years in Procurement
Engineering at the K-25 and X-10 site, and 11 years as a buyer in the
Central Purchasing Division. He is married to the former Janis Carlton.
Mr. Sugarman has two sons, Stephen and Michael, and two step-children,
Jennifer Bell and Kevin Carlton, one grandchild, and three
step-grandchildren. Mr. Sugarman is active in the Lawnville Road Church
of Christ, and is presently serving as treasurer. Mr. Sugarman is the
son of the late Dr. Nat Sugarman and the late Mildred P. Sugarman.
